For me too...I agree!

Mea culpa.
Twas my posts that trigger that popup...smiley thingys.  Luckily, I saw your topic Temmu & started investigating.  Thnx for that  :flowers:

In the meanwhile, requested that GR@PH;<'S "remove" the smiley links I had posted & it fixed the "popup" you were reporting at the time.

I am awaiting comment from the site, and will provide more informed info.  Personal schedule a bit stretched...I'll be back.

We host several sites where we restrict 'hotlinking' for our clients.

And I have it as an option in cPanel (if I want to turn it on).  What are you getting at?

mikey

Hey Arron, been a while, hope everything is going well for you these days.

"What are you getting at?"

Well I thought the link was self explanatory. The reason that dialog came up was because someone hotlinked one or more images from someplace where they don't allow bandwidth theft. I just assumed that folk would check out the link to see what hotlinking is.

I guess I should have just quoted some of the pages from the link. Sorry.

Actually, from my recollection, I believe that site did allow hotlinking in the past but apparently changed policies.

No need to apologize.  I recognized that "popup" as being associated with restricting unauthorized hotlinking, so I was caught off guard as well.  I had read most of the links you posted above, last year.  I believe the usage of that dialog/"popup" by site owners is "well-established", but not "well known".  Thanks for pointing that out.

However, I had done my homework reviewing the site's terms of use:
QuoteYou may use any smile you like in the chat room, or on the forum, or you can copy the code of the smile you like and add it to your message.

My works are free for personal using. But All of them are my property. They cannot be used in commercial projects without my permission. Private person does not need my permission to use them at homepages, sites, blogs, forums, etc.

Works of every author must be placed at separate section named accordingly with author's name. Also you should point to this website like to a source (if the author does not want to point his own).

No change in policies that I am aware of, or intent to change them.

The "images" that I posted triggering the "popups" were smileys hosted at Aiwan's site.
It turns out there were unforseen problems with some site changes.  Per Aiwan:
Quote7 декабря были технические работы. Все неполадки были временные. Приносим свои извинения.

Babelfish Translation:
"On 7 December there were technical works. All troubles were temporary. We bring our apologies."

As always I am living and learning, especially how the internet works.  Thanks for the screenshots Temmu.  They were helpful.

For those of you who don't follow smiley artists/creations like I do, Aiwan & Fool are at the top of my list of "legend" when it comes to the creation of smileys over the years.  An amazing level of creativity & animation skill.

Actually, I've seen that guy at many sites.  It is indeed a favorite of many people, myself included.  Well done!  :rose:
