my brother has really done a working on this cpu!!! I need your help to get rid of all of these pop ups saying that I need to download software.....mainly ones on my tool bar blinking. And everytime i open a internet window a virus site pops up///I have never seen a computer infected this bad....It wont even let me finish running smitfraudfix....it says something about system 32...here is a logfile please do what you can

First move HijackThis to a permanent folder.  Do not run it from the desktop.  Then please do the following: 

  • Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop. 
  • Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive% (Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix). 
    Please Note: 

    • If an error message is displayed when running SDFix, see the instructions in SDFix_ReadMe.
    • If you are unale to run in Safe Mode, please download SafeBootKeyRepair.  Save it to your desktop.  Double-Click to run it and follow the provided instruction.
  • Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune from http://www.atribune.org/content/view/40/2/ .  Save it to your Desktop.
Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
Run ATF Cleaner

  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.

  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
    (Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Restart in safe mode and make sure you have the most recent version of SmitFraudFix, currently v2.274.
    Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt and C:\rapport.txt here as a reply along with a fresh HijackThis log

Please do the following in this order:

1) Move HijackThis to a permanent folder.
2) Go to Add/Remove Programs and look for an entry to remove both VirusProtect 3.9 and Video Add-on
3) Advise if you were able to uninstall either or both

Now that I've had a good night's sleep, coffee, and my brain is in gear, please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

  • Save it to your desktop and run it.

    • Click Next
    • Click Install
    • Make sure "Run fixit" is checked
    • Click Finish
  • The fix will begin; follow the prompts
  • You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
  • Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  • Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log as a reply to this thread
Note:  some people may have Internet connection problems associated with this infection.  If this should occur after running this tool, for Windows 2K/XP, please go to Start -> Control Panel, and choose Network Connections.  Then right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties.  Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically.  Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

even under administrators account it wont let me run fixwareout.......it gives me a message that says NOTADMIN!!

Ok, scratch what I posted.  I just got a glimpse of some information that I was looking for before and it looks like we can make progress with CF.  It is extremely important that these instructions be followed exactly.

Please follow these instructions carefully: 

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.                     **Note:  It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close any open browsers.
2. Close/disable all antivirus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you. 
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
Note:  Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall
