Hi all

When my wife opens her hotmail, windows live messenger opens up.
It only opens but does not log her in.
Just curious why it opens her messenger :hammy:

Rest of the family does not get this problem only my wife.

Had a look but couldn't find any settings to change.

using windowsxp  sp2 all updates
Windows live messenger version 8.5.1302

Cheers pete  :firefox:

Hi Pete,
Do you mean that when she actually logs in to the Hotmail (or, I should say, Windows Live Hotmail 8) ) site, Messenger opens? Or, when she opens an actual Hotmail email, Messenger opens?
If she has no need for Messenger, you can always uncheck it to not start up with Windows.

Hi James

Thanks for your response. :Hammys pint: very much appreciated.
Messenger opens when she opens an email.
Messenger is already ticked not to open when windows start.

The strange part is it only happens to her and no one else in the family, which we all use (windows live hotmail)  :tech:

As Alice would say: 'curiouser and curiouser'...I would be tempted to uninstall Messenger, then install SP3 for XP. Then install Messenger. See what happens then.
I cannot see any reason why Messenger should fire up when opening a Hotmail email.

Hi Pete :)

In Windows Live Messenger go to Options-->Security. Then try untick what I have marked with red on the screenshot below and see if that helps:

Hi James

Is sp3 in the final stage. Are you are aware if updating to sp3 caused many headaches.
I am just being cautious as i am not computer smart, and we only have the family computer.
Thanks again for you reply, very much appreciated. :Hammys pint:

Hi  stealthzone

That box is already unticked, that what make it more curious as, my wifes settings are the same as rest of us.
Will double check later as she is not home at the present.
Also your help is very much apprciated as well. :Hammys pint:

My bad...I thought the final release was out, but it is currently at Release Candidate 2 (RC2). Best not to install it yet.  8)
The only workaround I can see at this point is to close Messenger down completely, until she needs it, that is.

Hi James

Rechecked her settings same as mine.

I will get her to shut down messenger so it does not open up when she checks her email. ( but she won't)

Thanks again for your assistance.  :Hammys pint:
