Hi there  :)

We are in France. It is Ferdinand Cheval's lifetime building  Le Palais Idéal (the "Ideal Palace") in Hauterives. Cheval began the building in April 1879. He claimed that he had tripped on a stone and was inspired by its shape. He returned to the same spot the next day and started collecting stones.

For the next 33 years, during his daily mail route, Cheval carried stones from his delivery rounds and at home used them to build his Palais idéal, the Ideal Palace. First he carried the stones in his pockets, then a basket and eventually a wheelbarrow. He often worked at night, by the light of an oil lamp.

Cheval spent the first two decades building the outer walls. The Palace is a mix of different styles with inspirations from the Bible to Hindu mythology. Cheval bound the stones together with lime, mortar and cement.

Ferdinand Cheval lived in Châteauneuf-de-Galaure, in the Drôme département of France. He had left school at the age of 13 to become a baker's apprentice but  became a postman.

Correct!

It makes me think that if every climate change protestor in Copenhagen were to pick up a stone and start building a similar structure, in next to no time you would have.....

.... a big pile of stones!

Where are we going next?

Hi :)
Well, it took me 2 hours to find Le Palais Idéal (the "Ideal Palace"). Sometimes it's good to have Google around :)

I can only say that it is a really bad idea if any climate protestor pick up a single stone in Copenhagen these days. I have seen bad results of that over the last past 3 days and I'll bet, if our politicians don't come up with some  very good results in the end of COP15, there will be a big drama in Copenhagen. I do hope COP15 will end in a good way!
But anyway here is a few videos from the last past days in Copenhagen:

This is a bit of a challenge. This image depicts a far larger structure (if you stood at one end you could not see the other). Can you tell me where it starts and ends and what it is?

Temmu

it is the earth.
you can see about 3 miles of it...
ok, prolly not.

how about a roman road

Eric the Red

It's not a Roman road. You were closer with the first answer.

Temmu

is it a harbor?  i see lots of water there...

Eric the Red

Ignore the background and concentrate on the pillar, what is it a part of?

Are we very close to the Equator? A few yards maybe? :breakkie:

No, not the equator - try rotating clockwise by 90 degrees  :)
