Big clue, for those suffering from a mental block:

Sir Samuel Bentham had a significant part to play in this historic site.  :uhm:

Eric the Red,
Would it have any thing to do with The Royal Arsenal

GR@PH;<'S   :Hammys pint:
press Enter then have a Brandy then if the problem is still there have another Brandy
Q: does it work
A: It does seem to for a few hours at least.

GR@PH;<'S   :Hammys pint:

No, nor would it have anything to do with the Royal West Ham  :D

Sorry, I couldn't resist that one. It is not anything to do with Woolwich, if you need another clue you can find one by looking at my profile (left).

Hmmm ... I may have made this too tough. The world's oldest commissioned warship used 768 of the items made at this location to help her operate as a ship. A further 628 were used to help her fight.

No, it has nothing to do with the Mary Rose but you are in the right location.

Eric the Red,
I think it is time for another hint.

What was done at this location was later repeated by a Mr. Thomas Blanchard and was the forerunner of a process used by Mr. Henry Ford.

Another clue, go back and read the previous posts, the answer is there if you can focus your reasoning powers, so go around the block one more time.  :)

Time to bring this one to a close. The building is the historic Block Mills in Portsmouth Naval Dockyard. This building was the site of the first mass production process where the production of blocks for sailing ships was mechanised with input from Marc Brunel, father of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The processes introduced here were later used in other forms of mechanised production such as at the Springfield Armory.

Who wants to go next?

Temmu,

As I said at the time:

QuoteClose but no cigar! We are not in Woolwich and it is not Isambard but a close relative, Would you care to try again?

There is significant difference between Woolwich Dockyard and Portsmouth Dockyard (apart from 70 miles) in that, whilst both had sawmills, there was no block mill at Woolwich - their blocks there were supplied from Chatham. I could not have given you that although you came within a whisker of getting the right location. So, as you were the closest I agree with GR@PH;<'S  - your turn next.
