A water sprinkler?
A salad spinner?

R-C

well I guess I will give it to you for water sprinkler but it is actually made to screw onto the top of one of the large soda bottles so that you can use any plastic bottle as a watering device.

Yes, R-C, that's what I meant. I was just abbreviating my answer...

Here's one that might look familiar (but it's not for the same purpose!)

Eric the Red

It is a Victorian/Edwardian period mouth gag, used for used for opening the mouth, depressing the tongue and maintaining the airway in surgical operations. The spiral groove was used for introducing anaesthetics, etc.

ETR...how on earth did you pick that!?! I expected this one to go for eons!

Your turn...I'm going off to sulk for a while...

Eric the Red

I was in the Science Museum in Kensington a couple of weeks ago and I saw one similar to the picture above which piqued my curiousity.

So, moving on, what is this used for ....

a step up?

Give that punter a coconut! A heavy brass folding step for fitting to the transom to make it easier to climb out of the dinghy, fitted to the transom, mast or for interior use. A stainless steel spring holds the step in the closed or open position.

R-C,
Is it a handle for plastic carrier bags to stop them digging in to your fingers.
