I bought two Roombas off Woot! a few weeks ago, and so far I absoltely love them.  Picture I posted in the pets thread of the one I keep at home (the other's at the office):

Here's a video of it vacuuming my living room until I tell it to go back in the charger.  I still think it's hillarious when it's under the couch.  These are the same video, just different sizes and formats:

MP4 - 176 x 144 (3.6 MB)
WMV - 320 x 240 (5.3 MB)
WMV - 640 x 480 (36.8 MB)

There's just one problem - I don't know what to name them.  I like being silly with things like this, so something fun like "Sweepy" (although this one's corny I think).

We'll start with Corrine's post from the pets thread:

Quote@Aaron, you have to name your "pet" Roombas.  Here are some suggestions to get you started:

  • Rosie & Mac (Rosie is the Robot Maid on the Jetsons and Mac is her boyfriend)
  • Fred & Wilma (Flintstone); Barney & Betty (Rubble); Pebbles & Bamm Bamm
  • Disney characters:  Mickey & Minnie; Donald & Daffy; etc.
  • Amos & Andy
  • C3PO & R2D2

So, what'cha think?  Any good name ideas?  And, yes, I consider them both boys. ;)

Aaron Hulett - MSFT,
If it were mine I would have called it Will as Will Smith stared in iROBOT.

He has two of Roombas so needs two name suggestions, GR@PH;<'S.

Good point.  I can't imagine what a Roomba might do if called by the wrong name.  :thud:

Liking the suggestions so far.  Here's another, after two of the seven dwarfs:  Sleepy & Sneezy (coordinating with conditions Aaron often claims to match)

As I sat here reading this thread my Roomba is banging around the base of my chair, getting all the crumbs that I leave her. I call my Honey cause she sure is!

Ok I have to ask since a few of you own them, how well do they work and if you have a large house is it suggested?  My new house is 4000 sqft.  A portion is tile and the rest is brand new carpet which is shedding that  new fuzz.  One problem is that there are 2 elevations so it would not be able to do one part with out my lifting it over to there.  I am afraid it would head off down the hall and never  be seen again LOL
Does it do well on tile as well as carpet?

I think you'd need more than one Roomba, R-C.

Aaron, have you picked names yet?  (For the sake of identification, I'll refer to them as Home-Ba and Micro-Ba.)  After the experience Home-Ba had yesterday, I think its time.  (I hope Micro-Ba hasn't been left to roam around the office on his own. :hysterical: )

ps
i bought a robotic lawnmower ( http://www.consumersearch.com/robotic-lawn-mowers ) thinking it was a roomba.
i had to replace the carpet.
the cat still will not come down from the chandelier.

@R-C Yes they work very well. You'd prolly need two though.  They come with an area controller so you can contain it or block it however you 'd think of it.  They work excellent on carpet or tile.  A lot of dirt, fuzz or pet hair will require emptying fairly often.  As you will see it somewhere inactive, because you did not hear it tell you to empty it, nor heard it tell you to clean the brushes.  Sometimes mine actually runs out of charge, as I have forgotten I had it running hours before! LOL
