Looking for some feedback on Spyware Doctor from PC Tools, I think.
Did a forum search here and not much comes up, and it doesn't appear to be listed in the Updates & Alerts area.
Do I have the name right?
A family member has it and is wondering if she should renew or switch.
Reviews online seem to be favorable...

Spyware Doctor is included in Eric Howe's Trustworthy Anti-Spyware Products list.

I saw that link too.  Looks good then to recommend renewing.
FYI, any reason why it isn't in LzD Update & Alert list?

Andy

The "Updaters" post the most common programs updates, its their choice as to post what updates, and remember they are all volunteers like all the staff here

I'll get in contact with them, and see if it would be possible.

:D

Andy,
No, no, no.  I was just asking out of curiosity about the Update & Alerts area.  Criteria for choosing which programs are in that area, etc.  Most common, or frequently used works for me.   I was asking about Spyware Doctor because it appears to be rated well, but I don't hear alot about in the forums.

Andy

Well I dont really know how they work, "they" being the updaters, but i guess they post updates for the most popular programs....

But i'll see what they can do for you....  :D

I am using the free trial that does not remove any thing with it's scans. I like it. It's active blocking seems to work well and it seem very good at blocking keyloggers.Set on high it blocked my spellchecker. So I set it on Medium.

Ripley

Hey default,
Your post makes me wonder more about these "trial versions."
Example, you download & install a trial version of a security program and for the trial period, say 14 0r 30 days, all features are enabled.
After the trial period, if you don't purchase a subscription, then you loose features.  I thought the feature that was lost was getting automatic updates, but that you could get manual updates.
Have Counterspy that I installed from a CD that was burned for me, but Counterspy was let me manually update it.
That's not good.
So a person retains a good scanner (and detects things, but doesn't remove if found?) and can enable real-time monitoring/protection, but kinda at a disadvantage if you can't update it.
Can you get updates for that Spyware Doctor even tho you have the trial version?
I have the trial version of Ewido, but haven't installed it yet.  I thought I read all the fine print at the vendor websites, but w/ the trial version of Ewido, will I be able to manually update it?

GR@PH;<'S

ripley,
QuoteI have the trial version of Ewido, but haven't installed it yet
Well I for one recommend that you do install it as unlike some programs that are around you will be able to update Ewido after your trial period has ended

Good to know!  Thnx GR@PH;<'S!  :flowers:
Do you know if it "removes" if it detects in Ewido?
Doesn't seem very effective if a scanner detects something and then isn't allowed to do anything w/ it, if it's w/in the scanner's capabilities.
Guess that's what you get when you pay for something, which I support doing.  Just have to decide which one I want to pay subscriptions for.

Corrine

Ewido "removes" very effectively!  See the pinned topic in this forum on Ewido, including a tutorial prepared by DieHard.

SpywareBlaster also blocks ActiveX, and more:

QuoteSpyware, adware, browser hijackers, and dialers are some of the fastest-growing threats on the Internet today.
By simply browsing to a web page, you could find your computer to be the brand-new host of one of these unwanted fiends!

The most important step you can take is to secure your system. And SpywareBlaster is the most powerful protection program available.

# Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.
# Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
# Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.

SpywareBlaster can help keep your system spyware-free and secure, without interfering with the "good side" of the web.

And unlike other programs, SpywareBlaster does not have to remain running in the background.
