This game uses the standard alphabet choices AND number symbols 0-9.  Which means 2 consecutive number symbols can represent double digits, such as 49 or just a single number 5.

JDC played an O as in zero's, and I put in any O's...which is CONFUSING!

To clear things up...there is one alpha O...played, and no numeric 0's on the board.
