There were a lot of underperforming teams in the group stages.  Germany, the defending champions, for example. France should have done better. No way to predict Argentina would have been this terrible. Neither Messi nor Neymar performed.

I think the success of the referee use of VAR is mixed.

Let's see what England will do. If they go well with Belgium, they will be the pleasant surprise of this World Cup.

P.S. No Netherlands in this Mundial? Now I realized that it's not only Italy that is missing.

England's 8 lineup changes sucked the life out of their starting 11 ... would have rather faced Japan than Colombia in the knockout stage. Playing it safe can have consequences ...

Spain has impressed so far. Brazil has some weaknesses.

From Australia, Cahill was one of my favorite players in Real Football.  :)

I'm not sure about France yet. I forgot to predict the winner between Colombia and England. I will say England. I wonder what I will earn/loose if I play the Belgium-Japan as above.  ::)

Colombia in the office sweepstakes but obviously mainly rooting for England although I think they played terribly against Belgium

France v Belgium wasn't too far of a stretch but how many people had England v Croatia?

Good point, Panos.  Those young boys aren't in the World Cup but they and their rescuers are being cheered on by the World.  It takes up to six hours to navigate the distance of ~2.5 miles through narrow passages for the divers to reach those boys, as young as 11 years old.

No question the world is happy that all of the boys and their coach have been safely rescued and, although not World Cup related, Mannchester United is a well known team in the world of soccer.  Love that Manchester United invites Thai cave survivors to Old Trafford.

Now, I return you to the "semi-official" 2018 World Cup discussion with France advancing after the win over Belgium today.  Bing predicts England to win against Croatia tomorrow.  Who are you cheering for?

I believe that England will win. Croatia has better technicians footballers, but England has a stronger team and it's their great opportunity to "bring it home" after 1966. Of course the opportunity is for the Croatians too, but I will say England once again.
