Yipes!  The heat may indeed be the reason for the system shutting down.  Before Microsoft retired the "Microsoft at Home" website, I copied several of my favorite help articles.  Please see the article preserved at Tidbits: How to clean your computer.

I will admit, after reading that article, that I do not clean my PC nearly often enough. Thank you for the article, very very helpful. I will do this tomorrow and report back on the results.

Thanks

Well, after a token clean with buds and alcohol, I already see a difference. The HD is 39C, the CPU is never over 60C, the Aux is 50C and the System is around 45C. I have not suffered a shutdown all day and I have worked the machine very hard. I think once I manage to get hold of some compressed air and do a thorough job I should have this solved.
Thank you so much for all you did, at least I know my machine is clean now, in more ways than one.

All the Best

That is excellent news.

Please note that I saw several indications on another forum where I'm active that specializes in BSOD's that the drivers in Speed Fan can sometimes be troublesome and when they are helping people recommend uninstalling it after testing.  After you complete cleaning your computer and retesting, you may want to uninstall it.  You can always download a new copy if you need to test in the future.  Also, be careful with the canned air.  You want to be "gentle" with it, particularly around the fans.

Let's take care of the rest of the cleanup by removing the tools used:

Please download Delfix from here.

Ensure the following boxes are checked:
  • Remove disinfection tools
  • Create registry backup
  • Purge system restore

  • Click Run
