MBAM problem

Last night I updated to new version 2.0.3.1025
Immediately after updating I did a scan and all was OK. I also carried out a scan with ESET NOD32 A/V and all was also OK.
I then switched the computer off.

This morning, I am having problems with MBAM.
Under "Real-Time Protection", I am notified that:
"Malicious Webside Protection disabled, Malware Protection enabled".
Clicking on the "Fix Now" button has no effect.
I can manually go into settings and activate Malicious Webside protection, but it does not hold the setting. After a few seconds it again disables Malicious Webside protection.

After many years of using MBAM, this is the first time I am having a problem with it. Any ideas please? Does anybody know of a problem with the new version?

Basil

I have right clicked on the little icon on taskbar and the "Malicious Webside Protection" was not ticked.
I have ticked it and it now seems to be holding the setting!
I am just going to carry out another scan and see what happens...

Basil

Scan successfully completed...All clear!

I am really puzzled with this one... :(

This has been an issue, as reported in http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/malwarebytes-anti-malware-2-0-3-1025-released-today-october-13-2014.369193/

Quoting two key posts there:

From Marcin:  "Hi guys, we're having issues with one of our CDN providers and the syncing with our origin servers. It's causing sync issues on the client as well. We're working as quickly as we can on this!"

From AdvancedSetup:  "If you are receiving a message inside the MBAM program that Malicious Website Protection is disabled please do the following to correct the issue.

•On the Dashboard click "Update now" to get the latest database version
•Right click the Malwarebytes tray icon and click "Exit"
•Restart the Malwarebytes application from the programs menu or desktop shortcut.
•In most cases this resolves the issue, however if the issue still persists, reboot the computer and the issue should be resolved.
•If the above procedures still do not correct the issue for you then please download the MBAM installer  http://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/ and reinstall the program which will fix the issue for you
."

Thank you ky331.... :goodie:

I got worried for a moment. I have restarted the machine and all seems to be fine now. All settings are holding correctly.

Hi, all!

The problem is still there for me.

Pano,
What worked for me, was right clicking the MBAM icon on bottom right hand corner of the screen and ticking "Malicious Webside protection" which remained not ticked. Have you tried that??

Hi, Vassili.

Yes, I have tried it. The option remained ticked there, but when I went to the MBAM's dashboard, the option was disabled. I tried everything above and nothing worked, except of uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Now is ok. I think it is the third time in a short period of time I uninstall and reinstall MBAM! I wanted to avoid it, but it was necessary.  :mitch:

I don't believe this is an issue related to the new program version 2.0.3.1025... because I still have 2.0.2.1012, and am experiencing the same problem (Website protection disabled).   I can click on the button to enable it on the Settings / Detection and Protection tab; and also, separately, by RIGHT-clicking on the MBAM icon in my system tray; and even doing both, the dashboard is still not acknowledging this.

So I would tend to hope it's a server/definitions issue, as had been asserted above.   I have no plans to "mess-around" with what may turn out to be needless reinstallations.

By the way, having accessed the test website for protection, I can confirm the Malicious Website protection is indeed OFF, despite my having clicked both option locations to enable it.

Agreed.  Nothing to do with the version update to 2.0.3.1025.  I've intentionally held off updating because I was curious about how long it would take for the internal updater to notify me about the version update.  As Marcin updated the Wilders thread this afternoon:

This database sync issue has turned into a huge pain in the butt. It appears a complete reinstallation of the software (or simply deleting rules.ref!) resolves all issues. Basically, it lets MBAM sync back with the latest database. Let me know if that isn't resolving the issues.

I just tried Marcin's suggested fix:

Delete (or just rename) the file C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\RULES.REF

Exit and restart MBAM.  (I opted for a reboot to do this).

The red warning is initially still there.

Open MBAM, to update its database.

Then enable Malicious Website Protection.    It should "stick" this time.

Hopefully, this is a one-time fix that will survive reboots... time will tell.

Corrine

Works without a reboot!

This thread had me anxious and paranoid until I suddenly realized that I don't have the premium version.

Just a quick update.
Mine is still working perfectly well, despite many restarts, during the past 24 hours.

Corrine

The database sync problem has apparently been resolved.  The reason I say this is because I booted up a second computer that I hadn't started yesterday.  No indication of the "Malicious Webside Protection" being disabled and the latest definitions updated.
