Hello. I noticed that the Winpatrol icon was no longer in the task bar, and when I try to load the program I get the Windows message asking if I want to allow the program to run. I click yes but Winpatrol never loads, meaning I cannot use or view any of the options or features.

I paid for the excellent program over 10 years ago now. I have Windows 10. Thanks for any help.

Hi pootle and welcome to Landzdown.
Quotewhen I try to load the program I get the Windows message asking if I want to allow the program to run.
This confuses me a little. What is asking this question?

And are you sure the WinPatrol icon is not just hidden? If you click the little up arrow or caret symbol ( ^ ) in the lower right, this should reveal the hidden icons. If WinPatrol is there, you can simply drag and drop it down in to the Notification area (previously known as System Tray).

Alternatively, you can right-click on that caret symbol and select Properties, then under the Taskbar tab, click "Customize..." . Then click on "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" and ensure the slider for WinPatrol Monitor is set to On.

When you look at the Windws 10 Task Manager, do you see the "WinPatrol Monitor' under processes (after you 'allow' it to run)?  If so, Digerati's suggestion of a hidden icon is spot on.

Right-click the taskbar and select "Task Manager" to pull it up.  If WP is running, try his ideas.  If no joy (and WP is running), in the WinPatrol Options tab, make sure that "Hide Scotty System Tray Icon" is not checkmarked.  If it isn't, checkmark it, then uncheckmark it (that sometimes resolves the missing icon).

yes the icon is now there in the task bar but when I clicked on it it is windows 10 message that asks if I want to allow winpatrol to run. I click yes but the main winpatrol never loaded...No winpatrol was not running hidden because I got new warning messages from winpatrol when I reinstalled the program, asking if I wanted certain things to be allowed to run.

I think I fixed theproblem by uninstalling winpatrol and reinstalling it, but it has happened again and again.

Thank you for your help.

just to clarify, the winpatrol icon is now in the taskbar and the program loads as normal when I click on it, or try to load the program by double clicking on the winpatrol.exe icon - but my problem before was that clicking on the winpatrol icon only produced the windows 10 warning message, asking if I want winpatrol to be allowed to run....I think that is cleared everything up.

thanks again for your time in helping people, it is appreciated.

No, winpatrol does not load again. I checked Task Manager and the program is running as a process so that's ok. The icon is in the Taskbar but when I click on it or choose to go to winpatrols different options I get the windows 10 message which asks if I want to allow winpatrol to make changes to my pc. I click YES but the main program doesn't load.

It's ok though as long as the program is running...?
