I'm asking for help for my brother's laptop.  Toshiba Satellite, approx 3 yrs old, Windows 7, Intel 1.80 Ghz processor, 6 Gb Ram, 64bit. Almost as soon as it connects to the net a red screen, covering whole display comes up and verbal info says that an adware-spyware virus has infected the computer and gives a # for Microsoft to remove it.  I called ther 3 but immediately hung up when the guy at the other end said hello, not identifying as MS.  I did a Mbam scan and it found about 2000 0bjests, which it quarantined.  I then did an Avast scan which said it was clean.  The red screen takes over the whole computer and has it locked up. Help please.

Sorry, I missed your post.

Please provide the logs requested in Log Posting Instructions.  In addition, I would like to see a screen capture of the notice that pops up.

I did another Mbam scan in safe mode, found and removed 26 objects, restarted, then did an Avast scan.  The red screen isn't coming up now.  Brother is impatient to get his computer back when I told him that the red screen is no longer an issue.  I told him that the laptop probably has other issues.  Chances are I'll be back to you.  Thanks for getting back to me.

You are correct, there will be other things that need to be removed.  Perhaps his impatience is why he got infected in the first place.  ;)

See if you can convince your brother to post the logs.  We can work with him at his pace, based on his schedule.

I don't think that will work.  He's got enough computer literacy to start the thing, do a google search, and shut down. He didn't have any pictures on it til I put them on.  He's smart, just has no interest in the computer, other than for going to a few sites that he enjoys.  Probably won't be long til I'm back with more issues.  Thanks again.
