MS Security Essentials

I'm not sure how many still use this program. I use it on four Windows 7 computers but will be removing it at least on my desktop computer.

Here's what my update history looks like since January 7th


The two hour updates while I'm using the desktop or while I'm away but the computer is on are chocking the update history. All I see are these definition updates. With 5 to 7 arriving every day, searching for real updates I've installed takes a lot of scrolling.

Unfrotunately, I think when I remove MS Security Essentials all the updates will stay in the history.

If anyone knows a way to blast them off once I've uninstalled MS Security Essentials, please share.

On a Windows 7 64Bit the definition up dates are here--> C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\Definition Updates
You could delete the folder-> Definition Updates.

This is a 32 bit Win 7 Home Premium. I'll look and see if I can find something.

I also looked in at HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Microsoft Antimalware/Signature Updates
and it appears to be set for 24 hours.

If only I had known the key earlier, I might have figured out how to change it because it wasn't set for 24 hours.

I have received no updates today so whatever the problem was, I suspect it resolved itself.

I looked on two computers and saw this in def. updates


The updates folder is empty on both.
The only difference is the desktop has the second folder with a date of 1/11/2017 the date when the updates started coming faster than once a day.

With MSE on Windows 7, I always sorted the updates by Name.  That would separate definition updates as shown in the example below, although it is for updates to be installed.

I have no problem with updates to be installed because there are so few.

The problem comes when I look at my history to see if or when a particular update was installed by me. There is no way to simply remove all those definition updates from the history and see all the others.  I don't always install an update in the month it was issued, particularly now with the bundles. I might wait a month or even two or three when I read about issues before I install it.
