If you are still running Windows 7, note that it reaches EoL (End of Life) today.  Starting tomorrow (15 January 2020) all versions of Windows 7 (except Professional if the Extended Security Update has been purchased) will display a full-screen upgrade warning notification which will remain on the screen until you interact with the device.

For information about rollup update as well as how you can upgrade to Windows 10 today for free see the article at Bleeping Computer, Windows 7 Gets Final Monthly Rollup Update Before End Of Life.

I still use Windows 7, have strengthened my security on my computers, and am thinking of trying Linux. I've read many excellent reviews of Linux and may do a test first  and then, if I install it, I'll keep Windows 7 and do a dual boot where I can choose which operating system to use. Seems interesting enough. ;D ;)

If you don't want to give up your Windows 7 because of programs you use regularly but still want to be safe, you can surf safely by using linux on a USB stick.

I always tell people contemplating switching to linux to try several different distros and see what you like and what your hardware likes.

Try one with persistence. That way any changes you make and bookmarks you add to the browser will be saved so the next time you boot from the stick, you don't have to do everything again.
