I noticed some PM notifications from you and Roger in my email a few moments ago, Josh, but when I try to go to Scot's I'm getting a weird error page:

An error occurred (500 Error)

We're sorry, but a temporary technical error has occurred which means we cannot display this site right now.

Access denied for user 'phineas_forums'@'localhost' to database 'phineas_forums'

You can try again by clicking the button below, or try again later.

Can you or Corrine access it?

Corrine

I got the same error when I refreshed the page.  As you'll see, I sent Scot an email with a screen copy, cc'ing the both of you.

Yes, saw your email earlier. My guess is that Scot was doing some of the "house-cleaning" he mentioned in his last post at SNLF and possibly made a boo-boo. Ca-ca happens. :(

Yeah, I figured it was the database issue that he talked about.

And who is this "Phineas" fellow? ;)

Corrine

I've wondered the same thing.

Since Scot's is still down, we've decided to open the Linux forums here (at least for the time being).  Note that none of us know what the future holds for Scot's Newsletter forums since Scot just made the announcement of it being available yesterday.

All's well. Let 'er rip, Corrine.

Hi all! Trouble at Scot's prompted me to sign up here. Thankfully I have never had Windows malware problems so will be almost exclusively reading the Linux section. Let's hope it goes well.

> I have never had Windows malware problems...

Me, neither, actually. I was a tad bit sharper than the average computer user back in my Windows days, so that was probably to my advantage. Oh, never had a virus infection, either. How 'bout that?

Feel free to populate this new area with some goodies, Ratus Solarus. Start your Debian Updates thread in Bruno's Classroom, and I'll pin it there for you. I would start a Slackware Updates thread, but they're so far and few between, it would be quite boring. ;)

I'm off...

Probably his pick for database user. You usually manipulate the database using a set database user.

That makes sense.

In the meantime, it wouldn't hurt if you have contact information for other SNF Linux users to let them know that you're "meeting" here while Scot's is down.  Even if they don't wish to register, they'll be able to see as guests any distro updates that are posted.

Besides amenditman and eric, I do not have others contact info.

I let Cluttermagnet know on my private (Cabin In the Woods) forum about what was going on and mentioned that he should come here and register.

Also, I have a few folks' emails from SNLF. I just sent them an email about what's going on and told them about Landzdown. Hopefully, some (all) will show up here. Unfortunately, I expect a lot of bounce-backs. People don't seem to use the same email addresses for long periods of time, like I do. :(

We'll see...
