Pipewire is showing up in Debian Testing - at least on my install it is.

Nice, are you going to test it?

No immediate plans to test Pipewire. I think it got installed to work with Wayland. Wayland breaks my GNOME Shell Extensions.

nyway, the reason I don't want to upgrade is due to major changes in Xfce, one of the most annoying being Client Side Decorations (CSD). I HATE IT... HATE IT... HATE IT!

Can't you change that to the WM controls?

NOPE. It's hardwired for system windows in Xfce. You can turn it off and all other windows will be fine. You can utilize your own themes and such, but the system windows remain with large UGLY window decorations/colors.

I experienced this a while back when I briefly upgraded from 14.2 to Current in preparation for 15, but disliked it so much that I went back to 14.2.

Ah ok, well that is kind of stupid then.

Meh... you know Slackers and Linux. Someone will come up with a workaround, eventually. :)

I refuse to enter into any SysVInit vs SystemD debate. That one finished several years ago except for a few ancients on the Devuan forums. If you want to avoid Systemd there are ways. It works for me and has for a few years.

Regarding PipeWire, now that's a current development. I use JACK as default sound server with PulseAudio bridge module for normal desktop audio, and straight JACK for audio production duties.
I set up a dedicated Debian Sid installation specifically to try PipeWire several months back and whaddya know, it worked fine! Except when it didn't. One issue for which I just found a solution today is that pw-pipewire would suspend between songs in a playlist caused a delay and audible glitch. Too late for the solution, I'm back to the old setup. Other issues were present in Ardour and Harrison Mixbus with sample rate mismatches.
So my conclusion is that PipeWire might work for simple desktop audio, might need a tweak ot two, but is not ready for pro audio production although I know some folks at LinuxMusicians forum are using it albeit with different applications from what I use.
