A lesson in spyware
« on: June 16, 2006, 09:15:38 PM »
Eric the Red posted a link to an indepth report on "Everything that you wanted to know about Spyware ... but were afraid to ask" by the National Infrastructure Security Co-ordination Centre, the UK Government CERT.  (The link is here: )

There's an interesting article in The Register that is a bit "lighter" that I think you'll also enjoy. Its not all that long so take a couple minutes and read it, but be sure to read it all the way through.  Its one of those "surprise ending" articles.

Take a walk through the "Security Garden" -- Where Everything is Coming up Roses!

brav-o and a thousand thank-you's for links to those informative articles (and thanks to Eric the Red, for originally posting the PDF one).
- re the register uk article, microsoft got a little bit of this:  :smash: over the way they handled their Genuine Advantage Validation Tool, and supposedly have learned from the error of their ways.
at any rate: PLEASE keep posting links to any good informative pages on malware info you guys find.
it's interesting, and also helps explain the importance of settings we use for security (which sometimes seem a little mysterious).
