I need to back up alittle for this "acceptance speech"
I
joined LzD not that long ago for help with computer infections. First forum I have ever joined, and first time requesting help online.
I
remained an active member for 2 reasons.
Initially, it was to learn more about computer security that I realized was sorely lacking. And clearly anyone visiting our forum realizes there are members here you can learn from by reading their replies. In fact, you can find that at many forums.
But there also is a friendliness and approachability here that is helpful in the goal of connecting end users and their questions with security experts that have answers. Some might argue that it is easier to accomplish this type of friendly atmosphere because we are "smaller," or a newer forum than other more established ones. Humpf! To me, it smacks of collective forum experience and professional maturity when you can provide answers to end users and maintain some human dialog in the process. I have been impressed with this forum from the get go.
The second reason for staying active here was to maybe hang around long enough and find a way to some how contribute back, to say thank you for the time given in a particular thread, or the timely post by a member that keeps you informed.
Well, that's kinda hard when you aren't the brightest bulb hanging on the computer tree in terms of experience. Bless MY pea-pickin' heart! I realize the only way to learn is to post those naive questions and hope I can figure out a way to do it better and without being too much of a bother in the process. The patience and courtesy I have been extended since my membership here comes from that same LandzDown spyware cooker pot that also boils the nasties that shows up in our security scans/logs. A unique combination for a forum indeed, and to which I am quite proud to be a member.
I have a
FIERCE appreciation for security professionals and members that find a way to contribute in a forum amidst the hubdub of a daily life.
And I am extremely proud to be given the honor of being called a Friend of LandzDown.
Now it would appear there is more exploring around LzD and a secret handshake to sort out
