Lion cubs???  Bear Cubs???  What Cubs ya talking about?  Only sports I can chat about is rugby and some American football.  Baseball?  I'd rather watch paint dry.

But i will say my panic is over concerning loosing 1-2 quarts of oil within 40 miles (don't have kilometer converter) driving distance.  Frist place couldn't find the leak but thought it would be major...like a head gasket???  I was hoping it was a loose screw.  :hysterical:  Tells ya what I know about cars.
But second place concluded it was a defective oil filter...so just the cost of a new filter, oil, and their time to figure it out.  Whew!  That's a relief!

Nah, if you blew a head gasket, you would have known it......with all the smoke rolling out.

I had my share of that type of car problems.  Actually that problem was CAUSED by a repair shop!

My car (GMC Safari van to be more precise) had died in a parking lot of a shopping center.  I had it towed to a repair shop that I "heard" was good.

We knew it was either the starter or the alternator that was bad.

I shop called me at work to tell me what the problem was.  They said I needed a new starter, and that my spark plugs were fouled out, which I knew had not been a problem, as I was not trying and trying to turn the engine over when it would not start.  They also suggested to replace the serpentine belt, which I knew was going bad, so I agreed to go ahead and fix those things.

When I pick it up, I noticed that part of the back bumper was hanging off, and a part of the molding was gone!

They explained that they had to push my car in with their truck and it probably did that damage.  So they were able to get the bumper back and secured and was going to order the molding part that was damaged and could not be put back on.  (which they never did, btw)

As I drove it, I started to smell a bad burning smell.  It smelled like either oil or the smell of a belt.  I figured it was the belt, since it was new.

I called to make sure when I got to work, and they said to slip by real quick and they would take a look.  After work I did just that and they said, yes it probably is that, but the belt looked fine.

Then I went to pick up my husband.

On the way home ppl were flashing their lights at me as I had smoke just POURING out from under the van!

I nursed it home, and we got it into light and there was oil just pouring out from under the van!!

I called the shop and they said they didn't do anything in regards to the oil, so that if there was a leak it was new!

So I had a friend of mine who is a car mechanic come over and he found that the head gasket seal was pushing out!  And that there was fresh marks from a tork gun or wrench, and it looked as if they had tightened down on it so hard, that it even bent the top of it, and caused the gasket to pinch out from the sides, and oil was just pouring out of it.

He said the only other way that could have happened is if they tried and tried to start the car, and caused it to backfire.  Something like that...it has been awhile so I am sure I might have some of the facts messed up.

But needless to say, the shop had done something to the car, to cause this but it could not be proven!

All in all it cost me $900 to get it fixed and I had to pay car rental on top of that!

The van was never the same after that.  And shortly after all that, the tranny went!  It was too much money to fix, so I sold it to the junk yard!

So I don't trust repair shops at all!!  Especially being a woman and taking in a car.  They think they can take advantage since they figure us women don't know anything about cars.

I am glad that your problem ended up being simple and inexpensive!  That is great!

This IS true in my case!!  :hysterical:

So I guess we're going to have to go out and see the movie Chase...
Anyone seen it and think it deserves the Best Motion Picture award?

skittle, Sad story.
Sounds like they didn't have everything lined up when they replaced the serpentine belt. And with everything in the wrong spot when they started it up. I'll bet they knew right off the bat what the deal was. And tried to hide everything. That's the problems it would cause if they did.

yeah and the fact that you could see some fresh scrapes by the nuts on the head.  And it was no where near the area where they would have been working on to replace the starter and the belt.

And sad to say that was not my first experience such as this, when taking my car to a repair shop.

I am soooo glad that I don't even have a car anymore...I don't have to worry about such things again!

Still on my quest for an avatar.  Alas, I've been all over the net trying to find an image of Ripley and Jonesy of Alien fame.
Remember Ripley?
[last lines]
"Ripley: Final report of the commercial starship Nostromo, third officer reporting. The other members of the crew, Kane, Lambert, Parker, Brett, Ash and Captain Dallas, are dead. Cargo and ship destroyed. I should reach the frontier in about six weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up. This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo, signing off.
[to Jonesy the cat]
Ripley: Come on, cat."

The world thought she ws crazy for going back after her cat, but I always thought...now that's something I would do!

An avatar can be an image that's a jpeg right?  Like uploaded from your hard drive?  Or does it have to be saved at an image site or some website?  Or all of the above?  Are there size requirements?
Even tho I've been looking for an image that relates to Ellen Ripley of Alien, it seems that gif avatars are more fun to have.
That's about as far as I am on this quest.

You can upload an image from your hard drive or you can upload one to a image hosting service (such as yoxio)
