Good books to read

It would be good if we shared some book titles, regarding books we have read and liked. I know that each one has his/her style but that is no matter. A good book is always a good book.

I'm starting with these:

The last lecture, Randy Pausch
Blindness, Jose Saramango

I read too many books to list favorites!  My go-to books are mysteries and Phil Tomasso's mysteries are definitely favorites.  Phil and I used to work together and, in fact, I "beta read" "You Choose" as well as many of his other books.

I meant to include this in my earlier reply but forgot -- from Amazon, here's a list of Phil's published books, sorted in publication order, newest to oldest: Phillip Tomasso Books

BTW, Panos, from what I understand, Phil does plan on writing another Falcone & Richards book.  Like you, I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks for the books list. I'll take another one from there, but first I want to finish "13" (Steve Cavanagh).

13 was a good one.

BUT, I could not leave this thread without mentioning THE LITTLE PRINCE, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

I read it when I was a student and I consider it as one of the best books ever written.

The best chapter for me, is the one where he meets a fox (symbol of wisdom). This fox makes him realize the real, the true meaning of friendship.

"I hunt chickens; men hunt me. All the chickens are just alike, and all the men are just alike. And, in consequence, I am a little bored. But if you tame me, it will be as if the sun came to shine on my life. I shall know the sound of a step that will be different from all the others. Other steps send me hurrying back underneath the ground. Yours will call me, like music, out of my burrow. And then look: you see the grain-fields down yonder? I do not eat bread. Wheat is of no use to me. The wheat fields have nothing to say to me. And that is sad. But you have hair that is the color of gold. Think how wonderful that will be when you have tamed me! After "13" by Steve Cavanagh, I started reading "50-50" by the same author. I'm in the half of it and I like it. It seems that he the writer has a way to keep the interest up.

I love mysteries. So anything by Agatha Christie is at the top of my list. I have 32 of her titles in paperback.

Most of the above (including the last one) are mystery/detective books.

By the way, I read a book by Mary Westmacott (Cristie's alias name): The Giant's Bread. It was good (but not a mystery book).

I also enjoy Rex Stoudt's Nero Wolfe mysteries. I have a few of his books in paperback.

I got the chance to watch season 1 of an Italian tv show featuring Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin living in Italy. Generally I don't watch anything with subtitles but I made an exception for this. Nero Wolfe also grows orchids, as I started doing 8 years ago. All the shows showed lots of gorgeous orchids. You can only imagine that in a book. It was nice to be able to see them. I read the books so long ago and did not remember who the murder was so it was a surprise watching the tv show.

Nero Wolfe  :)

I have the complete collection in hardcover. Just started to re-read them in chronological story line (bit different than publishing order).

The two seasons of “A Nero Wolfe Mystery” on A&E was pretty good ... Maury Chaykin as Nero Wolfe and Timothy Hutton as Archie Goodwin.

My list would contain thousands. I'm a serious reader. Have been since mom taught me to read at three years old. More can be found about my reading habits on my Profile@Goodreads.

Here's one I just finished that was just wonderful!

Anthony Doerr's Cloud Cuckoo Land

Don't let the silly title put you off. The book is truly astounding.
