HOSTER Recommendations Please !
« on: April 21, 2008, 09:05:47 AM »
i'm looking for a quality hoster- and hoping people here have advice.

i don't want to over-pay, but i'm sick of the "bargain" companies: it's bad enough my current hoster has been sneaking more and more ads onto my online work area; i just caught them doing other tricks... UNACCEPTABLE.

* anyway
- i'm looking for a GOOD company. 99percent uptime, responsive tech support, PHP 5, unlimited domains, linux - unix (currently using Apache), full access and CONTROL over custom error pages, .htaccess, etc.

* i should probably get a dedicated or virtual dedicated server, but the learning curve time would kill me.

any recommendations, folks??

unless the server is generating a lot of income or has a lot of value to you (such as it hosts our business' website) you would not want to pay the large dollars (euros, whatever...) for a dedicated server...

you could load ubuntu server on a pc at home and get your isp to grant you a static ip address, but that's expensive too.

I know a couple people considering . Freedomlist has been with for quite a few years and they have been excellent.  There was a brief outage in March when they were experiencing an upstream network issue.  Other than that, well, I can't remember any other time since the move to that company quite a few years ago.  They have a variety of plans.
