London Olympic Ceremony

Wonder what our friends in other countries and the other side of the pond think about the ceremony?

Waiting for it to be shown here in the U.S.  NBC is spreading out the program 4.5 hours!

I have a special interest in the opening ceremony.  Someone I worked with for many years is in it.  She (Helen) has also been selected to take part in both the Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies. (The Legal Division had staff in many countries. Helen was the U.K. Manager of the Patent Staff and had visited the U.S. many times. A very charming lady.)

Helen reported that she is...

Quote
in the historic section of the Olympic Opening Ceremony wearing a long dress, apron and bonnet and shall be coming into the stadium from one of the tunnels at about 9.10 straight after 'the tree moment', at about 2 o'clock with the tree at 12, heading right for the centre ring and later moving to 3 o'clock clock near a machine and then at the end I will be at the very front on the edge of the ring. Our segment lasts 15 minutes. Very much doubt that I will feature - there are over a 1000 in my segment but you never know!

Another friend in the U.K. reported that she was unable to pick Helen out of the crowd.  :(

Someone was having a bubble with that ceremony.

The coverage here in the States was dreadful.  The talking head announcers made one inane comment after another ...

Yeah!  Abby Wambach scores!  (U.S. Women's Soccer/Football Team)

Abby became the leading goal-scorer at the Olympics in US women's national team history

She is also sporting a black eye after tangling with one of her Colombian opponents in an attempt to win an air ball.

The black eye didn't stop Abby from scoring!
