Title: Nostalgic Tech Sounds + Microsoft Windows™ - the waltz
Post by: Corrine on July 31, 2019, 08:39:34 PM
9 nostalgic tech sounds you (probably) haven't heard in years (https://news.microsoft.com/europe/2019/07/30/9-nostalgic-tech-sounds-you-probably-havent-heard-in-years/) includes Dial-up Internet, Windows Start-up Sounds and more.

If that isn't enough for you, how about an orchestra playing Microsoft Windows™ - the waltz: https://youtu.be/dGKwx-BFO0E

I enjoyed all the start up sounds of the different versions of Windows

and I wondered how you could create different sounds on a dot matrix printer

I don't think I'll ever forget the sounds of TV snow or a manual typewriter.  :)

Off topic, but related with the typewriter:

That was the sound of the first typewriter I used, an Underwood manual typewriter.  Not sure if this was the exact model but close enough:

From that, in high school I graduated to a Smith Corona electric:  (https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.ebayimg.com%2F00%2Fs%2FMzM2WDUwMA%3D%3D%2Fz%2FF2UAAOxy7nNTWH0R%2F%24_35.JPG%3Fset_id%3D2&hash=efb03203dca97099f730a5da3a4cb9a670cb9dd1)

I still have an IBM Selectric stashed away in the basement:  (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9f/IBM_Selectric.jpg/220px-IBM_Selectric.jpg)

What is a Eurosignal?

I had a Nokia but not that ringtone.
I spent many, many hours playing Tetris and Welltris but I must have turned the sound off.

My mom owned an Underwood, similar to your picture. She and I moved up to a Smith Corona - non-electric.

My husband had an IBM Selectric II ($1,000 in 1980)  which he swore he'd never give up. Then I taught him how to use a computer to type tests. He learned WordPerfect's equation editor and he covered up the typewriter and didn't use it for years. He sold it to our Credit Union (almost gave it away) when the IBM typewriter there died.
