Nope, it is worse than that  :-[  ;)

Next guess:  You spilled coffee (or a stronger beverage) on it.

You went to grab the sugar from the cupboard, but you accidentally dropped it on the counter. This scared the cat, which went running into the other room, but as it did it knocked over the cat food dish it was eating from. The cat also hid behind the window curtain and in its haste clawed at it, causing the curtain rod to come falling down. As it fell it hit a magazine sitting over the ledge of a coffee table. You had a television remote on the magazine which you were going to read as you waited for TMZ to come on, but instead the remote went flying through the air after the curtain rod hit the magazine, and the remote landed on your laptop breaking it.

So now you have sugar all over the counter, cat food scattered on the floor, a curtain rod you need to put back up, and a broken laptop. And you haven't found the cat yet.

Winchester73 is closest

Next hint: Think of power cable and setting back the laptop to the original factory settings without backup :'(

No, no, no.  It has to be the scenario that Aaron outlined, or very close to it.    ;D   I'm sure you wouldn't have done a factory reset without confirming a backup first.

I'll change my answer to performing a restore to factory, and the restore is on the hard disk, and the battery in the laptop was dead/bad/... and the power went out/the cat played with the cord and unplugged it during restore, and now the laptop won't boot up. And then you yelled at the cat so ferociously that it ran terrified into the other room and hid behind the curtain.

There you got me, Aaron. 8 days ago I was resetting one of my laptops, because I wanted to go back to Windows 8.1 on that laptop. And off course I had not made any system backup ::) :-[ . Then I would go to the kitchen and get some coffee, but what I have not seen, was that my foot was a bit to close to the power cable and when I raised from the chair, the Stan & Laurel scenario happened. No power to the laptop which means no access to the system. The laptop is trying to start up over and over.
No matter what I have been doing to fix it- no good results. So yesterday I had to go the long, wet ,and lonesome walk to the service center, with the laptop under me arm :'( . They will send it over to Acer and they'll fix it all- but 71 US$ trown out from the window just for the birds...aaarrrgh.
Oh, and no system backup..tisk tisk! :( I normally don't have any problems with resetting things and have never had one flaming virus etc. in my time at a pc- so why this time? well, the Stan & Laurel (when they are at their best)scenario took place this time.

So what can we learn from this Stan & Laurel scenario...Well we can learn this:

1. Always backup the system and files
2. Don't fumble with any cables and keep the feets from those cables

Note: This tread is off course ment very self ironic and self bullying (if I can use that word).

However, at least Frands has learned a valuable lesson -- never attempt to copy Stan & Laurel without a backup as the results could prove to be disastrous.  Now if he could only find the cat.

Hi! :)

Well, I have not found the cat, yet, but I got my pc back from the Acer Service Center yesterday. Everything is up running again. The HDD was gone to the HHD fields forever, so they had to replace it with a new one, and a new Windows 8.1 etc.  But the best of it all, is that I got all me US$ 71 back in good old solid danish gold. Acer made it as a warranty repair as the pc is less than 6 months old. It is what I call good service! :) :) . And I have a backup ;) :)

Not only that but it was returned is almost one-half the expected 14 days for repair.  But, Frands, you really need to find the cat.  ;)
