Buddy Guy's "Rememberin' Stevie"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1ZhGYpWeLQ

Quote
Like the blues itself, the life of Buddy Guy has been all about joy and pain, beauty and sadness. And in his recently published autobiography, When I Left Home, the 75-year-old blues legend tells his tales of hardship and triumph with the same raw, truth-telling vibe you’ll pick up from one of his searing guitar solos.

The penultimate chapter of When I Left Home, “Alpine Valley”, features Guy’s remembrances of Stevie Ray Vaughan, who he credits with bringing back interest in the blues in the ’80s. Guy took Vaughan’s tragic death hard, and recalls how–right after his doomed Alpine Valley performance–Vaughan suggested they make a record together.

“Rememberin’ Stevie, I thought that if it did happen, it was gonna happen in blues heaven. I pictured the band–Muddy Waters, Otis Spann, Fred Belew, Little Walter, Stevie Ray Vaughan. That’s a band worth dying for.”

Let's see what's on the playlist right now...

Starcastle - Lady of the Lake
Hang Massive - Skanegatan
REO Speedwagon - 157 Riverside Avenue, and Lay Me Down - live from "The Session" on PBS 1971
Lawrence Gowen (with Styx) - a Criminal Mind
SHEL - The Battle of Evermore (live)

But when those are done playing, it's bedtime!

My nostalgic playlist from yesterday:  The Electrons - "It Ain't No Big Thing" / "In The Midnight Hour" on SHOCK SK-289 (A Pittsburgh, PA label & local hit in '67); Dick Whittington's Cats "In The Midnight Hour" from '66.   Today I'm listening to Sourdough OTR - old time radio: "Gunsmoke: Joke's On Us" from January 01, 1954.  My playlist varies from day to day with selections from various artists mostly from the '60's through the '80's with OTR thrown in, too.

I just had "In Session" on the player ... Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan, recorded live in 1983.  Vaughan was 29, King was 60.  Alas, Alpine Valley was a mere 7 years away.

Sad news...

One of the 1960s rock 'n' Roll legends Bobby Vee, 73, died early this Monday morning (local time) of complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Born Robert Thomas Velline on April 30, 1943, and raised in Fargo, Vee famously got his big break under tragic circumstances at the age of 15 in 1959. He and his band, the Shadows, were recruited to fill in for Buddy Holly at the Moorhead stop of the Winter Dance Party Tour the night after Holly died in a plane crash outside Clear Lake, Iowa.
Vee’s career soon rocketed after that as he earned teen idol fame and landed 38 singles in the Billboard Hot 100 between 1959-1970, including “Suzie Baby,” “Devil Or Angel,” “Rubber Ball,” “Take Good Care of My Baby,” “Run To Him” and “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes.”

Tiger Army/Album: V/-2016

Current song: Happier Times

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xV2TlOPvyIs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xV2TlOPvyIs)

Lyrics:
So now I've gone and I've left you alone
No explanation will suffice or ever do
But I loved you, as crazy as it seems
And if I could, I'd go back and do so many things so differently

That was just me, in happier times
A black and white photo in your mind
And that's how I wish that you'd think of me
And forget all the heartbreak

And I don't like the person I've become
But you remember... the person that was
And in the end, that person is still me
So when you think of what I was, please do not forget
that entirely

Are we defined by moments in our lives
Then what happens if those moments made you cry
It's not where you start, but where you end up they say
But what happens when where you end up is nowhere that
you want to be
Nowhere at all

You don't have to look at them adds and you even don't have to listen to radiostation at their website. If you are running Windows 8/10, you can download the free app Audials Radio from Microsoft Store-then you can listen to 2GB AM without adds and also you can listen to another 78.276 radiostations around the globe.

Glad you enjoyed! There is/was a lot of good music out of Africa that never reaches US radio. King Sunny Ade, for example. Joni Mitchell is also great, at least her first 5 albums. I also always enjoyed the harmonies of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young (CSNY). I used to hang around with David Crosby, because their drummer of that time period, Dallas Taylor, was my pal. We used to ride our Harley-Davidsons around Los Angeles:

Speaking of drummers, the man on the left in your Motorhead photo is Mikkey Dee. He and I also used to ride around Los Angeles on our Harleys when he was playing for a short time with Don Dokken ... before Motorhead.

Ahhhhh, rock drumming. By the way, do you like the drummer below? All songs recorded at A&M Records Studios in Los Angeles. The drummer is a member here. Black shirt, sunglasses, cowboy hat. Guess who.  8)

Hi Ghost, my Harleys were all 1340cc Evolutions. All FXR Lowriders. I've ridden many Pans and Shovels, and I love them. Big-twin Pans & Shovels are quite different from EVOs, but also much the same in many ways. My last FXR was a '93 Sport model (similar to the black bike photo ... not my bike). I ran a Mikuni carb, hi-po cam, shaved heads, and perf exhaust. It was FAST! ;)

I was also friends with Bartels HD in Marina Del Rey (LA), and they built the custom FXR used in the movie "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man" (photo attached taken from behind Bartels HD). I've ridden that bike many times. Five-gallon tank, extended rake, forward controls, and hard-tail rear. It's fun to ride.

By the way, and back on the topic of good music:  ;)

Took it to a chop shop and weeks later rolled out a beautiful chopped Harley. Motor work, trany work, Lake injectors, a bad fast bike and of course a hard tail!. Had it for two years and then totaled it and almost me.
Decided i needed something alittle less so bought a 1969 Triumph TR6-R and it also was chopped, motor work, hard tail with a narrow glide Springer. Very nice bike and could take any 900 Kaw on the street at that time.
The Harley was a problem crusiing around the city. It wouold load up and run rough so had to get on the hiway and blow it out every now and then:-). Cruised to Wheeling Colorado to watch Pikes Peak races and cruised back and spent many hours just cruising around the country side.
Had several bikes that arent worth mentioning but still to this day i love Harleys even though AMF bought them out in the early 70's as i heard it.
I like a clean non cluttered bike and thats why i had most of my bikes chopped with hidden wireing and etc.
Today i have no bike, bummer, and at 70 with my own business i think my riding days are over but.............

Hi Ghost,

Well, never say never. ;) Should the urge ever hit again, I'm sure you'll be back out on two wheels. By the way, those photos I posted are not "my bike". Yes, they are both "post-AMF" Harley FXRs (1340cc low riders), yet the Bartels' HD FXR (the one chopped for the movie) had its rear shocks replaced by solid steel bars. Thus, it became a hardtail, yet with a "rubber mounted" big twin. I rode that bike quite a few times, yet it wasn't my bike. All my HDs were FXRs. No photos here at the moment.

In the past, I owned everything. I had a '77 Honda 400 "Super Sport", with factory 4-into-1 exhaust. That was a cool bike. I also had a '78 Kawasaki Z1-R, the first "cafe racer" (1000cc). That was also a fun bike to ride. I always liked Triumphs, yet never owned one. My friend had a '70s  750 Bonneville. It was a cool bike.

Nothing like riding through the desert southwest at night. I used to take many rides to Arizona and Nevada from Los Angeles on my FXRs, as I had friends in Lake Havasu and in Laughlin. Great times, and great rides. Lots of drunken "yahoo nonsense" as well. Those were the days. I sometimes see HDs here in Japan. Not many, yet sometimes. In fact, I sometimes don't see them, but I SURE DO hear them. As you and I both know, you can tell it's a Harley from 1 mile away. Nothing like it.

Cheers,

John

Hi JDBush61,
Nice pics.

Maybe.........
All my hardtails were bolt on with a King/Queen seat.
My first bike was a 62 BSA Lightening that was ported/polished, and balanced. What a bike! Oh and it had the "side draft" carb also. Ended up sliding down a highway near here after a high speed wobble flipped the bike and me. Nine days later i was out of the hospital and back on another bike that was a Harley......57 shoivel head i think....could have been a pan head? Somewhere i have a pic of that bike. Never could get used to the wing ding sound of foreign bikes although i have nothing against them.
Ah yes the dessert at night from Palm Springs to 29 Palms, Calif. (Marine base) was a cold ride and that mountain pass just outside Palm Springs had lots of high wind so was very cold! The town of 29 Palms had a restaurant that had the best Bear Claws ever. We would get one before going to Palm Springs and of course when coming back with hot choclate. Was at 29 Palms 60 days then got orders to go to Marine Barracks Camp Allen in Norfolk Va, Brig unit. Was Building Overseerer for max security till i was discharged.....14 months. Humm Yahoo Nonsence....dont know what you mean;-DDD
Ya nothing like the sound of a Harley for sure. In town here i hear them quit often and there are a few guys that live a few blocks away that have Harleys which cruise by every once inawhile and still give me the urge to get another one but dont truly have the time to ride these days not even on a Sunday afternoon. Oh well maybe when i retire (70 today) ill buy another one but has to be pre AMF.

Bobby Vee meets The Crickets! Excellent. "Hey, Peggy Sue, I gotta know. Well ... all right!"

Now 4:00AM Sunday here in Japan, and listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble Live at Rockpalast 1984 (outdoor festival) as I work. Jeeeezzzuusss. Thirty-four years ago. Those were the days. I remember. Times were good, and everyone was happy.

Nothing like a magic-human Texas soul flowing out through strings and an amplifier. ;)

SRV’s “Live at Montreux 1982 & 1985” was in the car today. Double Trouble went from boos in the first performance to nothing but cheers in the second.

Six strings down on the heaven-bound flight ...
