« on: July 19, 2009, 09:29:11 PM »
What is the name of this magnificent structure, and where is it?

(Click on it to magnify ... I took this picture, and if I blow it up, you'll lose the beauty)

Temmu ... it was built as a retirement home for a Shogun.

Here's another view of this magnificent building:

Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion Temple), Kyoto, Japan

Kinkakuji was built in 1393 as a retirement villa for Shogun Yoshimitsu Ashikaga (1358-1409)
He intended to cover the exterior with gold, but only managed to coat the the ceiling of the third floor with gold leaf before his death.  < - - -  :hysterical:

winchester73, you got to visit there?  cool!
