Ad Blocking
« on: January 17, 2019, 04:09:41 PM »
For some reason I added Superblock and AdBlock Plus to Chrome.  I don't remember why and I would like to remove one of them.  They seem pretty much duplicate.
I am also wondering if there is something better out there.

I would suggest Ad Guard one of the best............ the software is a paid version but worth the money.

I haven't heard of SuperBlock but AdBlock Plus is well known and used by many.  Note:  I don't use Chrome but my preferred adblock program, uBlock Origin, is available in the Chrome Store.

I have Chrome and use it only on occasion to verify if a site is working or not. I have Adblock Plus with it.

I also don't use Chrome on Windows computers.
I use uBlockOrigin in most of the browsers and AdBlockPlus in IE because uBlockOrigin isn't available for that.

As you've seen, uBlock Origin is a favorite.  What did you decide, Chuck?

When things settle down here, I will look into Ublock Origin and remove the other 2 .
Does Ublock allow removal of ads at the url level?

Although not in English, this post at the Pale Moon forum provides an example of the settings available:  https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=13358#p95562

If I wish to block something, I right click and select Block Element.
I then get a box at the lower right of the browser screen with 3 options: Create, Pick, Quit

If what I want is in a pink box,  I simply hit create and whatever is in the box disappears.
If I want a bit more or less than what is in the box, I select pick and can move the mouse around to gather what I want removed then his create.

If the box doesn't seem to want to do what I want, and I've had that happen, I select Quit then try again.

I posted this in another thread but thought it might be of interest here too:

Sad. google ignores the fact that there are malicious ads, sites load slower with all the ads and people inadvertently click on an ad when they might want something else.

I found I end up tapping where I don't want to on my android devices. (I rarely use chrome on them but I haven't found a good ad blocker).

I don't think they ignore it. I think (perhaps in their arrogance?) they believe their browser is smart enough to detect and protect its users from such threats.

I installed Ublock Origin and it seems to have done what I wanted. There were no issues.  I disabled the other 2 and will now remove them.

Thanks to all for directing me to this
