Paul Thurrott Impressions On IE7

IE 7.0 Technical Changes Leave Web Developers, Users in the Lurch
Quote
My advice is simple: Boycott IE. It's a cancer on the Web that must be stopped. IE isn't secure and isn't standards-compliant, which makes it unworkable both for end users and Web content creators. Because of their user bases, however, Web developers are hamstrung into developing for IE at the expense of established standards that work well in all other browsers. You can turn the tide by demanding more from Microsoft and by using a better alternative Web browser. I recommend and use Mozilla Firefox, but Apple Safari (Macintosh only) and Opera 8 are both worth considering as well.

This could be another case of MS may wake up after the horse has bolted and then try to close the stable door.

But there again,  MS certainly ain't stupid - they do respond when they get enough of a whiff of bad publicity and indeed have done a lot to alleviate the earlier problems with IE. Personally I think most of the damage (PR wise) was done in the early days when the default settings were set for ease of use - rather than for security. MS has at least addressed those issues and more.

I only ever use IE as I believe that;  if it is "set-up properly" then I have found no serious dangers using it.  I wonder how many users there are who complain about it who have the wrong settings set or don't have the latest MS Critical Updates and/or who have little or no basic security on board - like a good firewall, good A/V and a few other "protective" proggies. It is always easy to bash the tall poppies - what I fear is that some of the people who like to cut the tall poppies down are themselves remiss in looking to their own settings/behaviour when surfing ...

PS hayc59 You forgotttted the linnnnnkk! <<<<EDIT this out when you fix it LOL

Cheers

Hi Totro,

I can see the link just fine and it is in Corrine's post as well. You've got something running that is blocking that URL, apparently.

Now about those pictorial delights, what did you say that Url was?!? :D

I see the link, VV sees it, but Totro doesn't.  :(

I wonder if it has anything to do with your monitor settings?   :uhm:

Vietnam Vet See your PM  8)

This is interesting - I do have blocks in my Firewall (even some ISP's total ranges blocked) but I can't see why that would prevent the link being "visible" by "hovering" the mouse -  I normally don't see the effect of a block unless I actually click (attempt to visit) a blocked site.

Can anybody give me the link in "disguised" form (i.e. in dot form) so it doesn't trigger - and/or better still the IP num - I can then see what happens on a manual direct browser entry ... Thanks

there ya go :)
Can you see that?  I notice you also had a problem with hayc59's post in the Events Forum, seeing Birth instead of Birthday.  Have you been into GR@PH;<'S brandy?  :D

No the birth one is how everyone would have seen it then (when it was first posted) off to the R/H side (Just a normal field compression)

And I'm talking there as when viewed from the main forum front page where all the last posts to the right are "Blah Blah ....." (field restriction)

Do you know what's the disguised name of the link or the IP num?

Oh and talking of your original B'day thread started by hayc59 - when he originally posted I could see the pic he posted (now its RED X) but that comes and goes for me with the fact that hayc59 regularly swaps his sigs and sources around. Some times I see his sig. sometimes I get a RED X (but thats because he has swapped his source link in and out of zones that just happen to co-incide with blocked zones in my systems.

Currently the pic in your B/D greet is sourced from http://www.massamune.net/userfiles/hayc59/HPblink.gif and won't show - but there is a logical reason for Red X which we all know but I am intrigued still with the invisible ink trick ... I still think you are all having a lend of me  8)
