A malvertising group recently targeted Apple users in a campaign that delivered a payload hidden in advertisement images. The attack triggered at least 5 million times a day.
Dubbed VeryMal after the name of a domain they've been using since August 2018 to redirect visitors, the group only recently resorted to steganography to conceal redirect code leading to a fake Flash update.
Confiant, a company offering anti-malvertising solutions for publishers, says that the recent VeryMal campaign lasted for two days between January 11-13, and targeted only US visitors.
VeryMal's malvertising activity recorded a peak in the first day and the costs associated with this timeframe are approximated to be in excess of $1.2 million.
