EASTER

One thing is certain, the longer the water from the lake continues to pour into New Orleans from the broken levees the more destruction that will be evident.

Geeze, what else can happen to these poor people. This is from AP as reported to MSNBC  :(

QuoteKatrina evacuee bus overturns, killing one
Local newspaper reports 10 wounded, several critically
Updated: 6:07 p.m. ET Sept. 2, 2005

OPELOUSAS, La. - One Hurricane Katrina refugee died and many others were injured when a bus carrying them west from the Superdome in New Orleans overturned and rolled across a highway median.

The Daily World of Opelousas reported on its Web site that at least 10 people were taken to hospitals, several of them critically injured.

Trooper Willie Williams, spokesman for the state police, said the driver lost control of the vehicle. More details were not immediately known.

The bus was heading north when it overturned on Interstate 49; it wound up on the southbound off-ramp to the town's main street.

Katrina-themed malware attack hits the net
By John Leyden
Published Friday 2nd September 2005 13:31 GMT

Hurricane Katrina is bringing out the worst in people on the net as well as on the streets of New Orleans. Spam emails purporting to offer links to news about Katrina are been used to tempt potential victims onto a site hosting Trojan malware.

The site exploits well-known IE vulnerabilities to install a variety of Trojans including Cgab-A, Borobot-P, Borobot-Q, Borodldr-H and Inor-R. Security firm Sophos reports that subject lines used in the malicious emails include, but are not limited to, the following:

Re: g8 Tropical storm flooded New Orleans.

Re: g7 80 percent of our city underwater.

Re: q1 Katrina killed as many as 80 people.

The malicious site (hosted in Poland) also harbours a secondary line of attack designed to dupe Windows users, reports Secure Computing. It cynically offers a "free scan" for the Zotob worm that in reality infects users with code that gives hackers control over compromised Windows PCs.

Similar - though arguably less sophisticated attacks - followed last year's Asian Tsunami and July's London bombing attacks. The malware attack isn't the first Katrina-themed scam. Earlier cynical attempts to cash in on the Katrina disaster came in the form of fake charity email appeals and the time-honoured sale of catastrophe-related urls. ®

I found this is being reported here also..

Warnings of Katrina e-mail scams
Computer users are being urged to be on guard for a bogus e-mail that pretends to offer news updates about Hurricane Katrina as a means to infect their PCs.
The malicious e-mail gives a brief news bulletin on the disaster before urging people to click "read more" and be taken to the full story on a website.
Yet once directed to the website, a virus is sent to the user's computer.

Yep. I posted a couple of similiar articles about those trojans and e-mails from different sources at CNET today. It's incredible how BOTH ends of the spectrum come out during a tragedy like this. You get the scumballs of the Earth but you also get an outpouring of donations and help from strangers. . The people that are taking advantage of this should be hung by the _ _ _ _ _ IMO. You can fill in the blanks if you want.

American Red Cross Site - should you wish to donate..........

I sent a check yesterday to the Salvation Army via a Telethon on our local NBC station. They are down there too and  was told to write "Hurricane Relief" on the check memo and they tell me that 100% is going the the victims. Everybody will have to be careful  though because there will be a lot of scams for sure.

EASTER

QuoteGeeze, what else can happen to these poor people. This is from AP as reported to MSNBC

I am like many absolutely mystified at how conditions grow even more worse than better over time. A huge Explosion rocked flooded New Orleans as a chemical storage plant erupted in flames this morning, no water pressure was available for firefighters to even attempt to work that fire. Several other fires have been occuring in various sections of the severely crippled big city on a daily basis.

BTW, Fats Domino the 77 year old music legend surfaced today and was reported he was also one of the thousands rescued from his flooded home.

What's Next?

roddy32

Yes, I heard about Fat's. At least some of the troops and relief trucks started rolling in this afternoon finally. It is going to take many years for them to recover from this. Our NBC news station in Wichita, Kansas tonight said that city officials have been contacted for possible help with people that have no place to go and it might be for a long term period of time. They were talking schools and housing and we are almost 1000 miles away so I'm sure the big cities that are closer are also getting calls. Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio all took some of them already.

I created a link from the News box to an Announcement document that has links to the Red Cross, Salvation Army as well as the FEMA list of other valid sites so have unpinned the FEMA document I posted yesterday.
