QuoteDespite having to turn down the offer to travel to Brazil, Martin posted a video message on Facebook from Jay to his hero.

He said: "Sammy, I'm sorry I won't be there but I still love you very much and hope you win. Come on Sammy!"

YES! Come on Sammy (Samaras)!!! For Jay, and for all of us!!!

USA v Belgium

Wow!!  What a game!
You might be out US, but you played very well!

Tim Howard was the only reason the game was close.

Apparently a Wikipedia editor thought the same about Tim Howard:  Tim Howard named secretary of defense in the best Wikipedia troll ever | The Verge

QuoteOn Tuesday, there was a silver lining to the US men's soccer team losing to Belgium: Tim Howard, the American goalkeeper, had one of the most spectacular evenings you'll ever see. He had 16 saves, more in a World Cup game than anyone in 50 years, and single-handedly kept the US alive for a thrilling conclusion in extra time. He was named player of the game, and congratulated by players on both teams.

And then, according to Wikipedia, he was appointed secretary of defense of the United States of America. Some brilliant Wikipedia editor gave Tim Howard the true credit he deserved last night, though the page was quickly reverted to show that Chuck Hagel, who had exactly zero saves on Tuesday for the US team, remains the secretary of defense.

You guys are too hard on your team...

They showed courage, commitment, and most of all honesty . They were not theatrically diving, trying to influence the referee's decision, which is the favourite pastime of most other teams. OK, they still have some work to do in refining their skill, but this takes a long time to develop. Professional football/soccer is a relatively new sport in the US. I think that once this happens, this team will be very difficult to beat.

I think that the first paragraph of the following Daily Telegraph report describes the US performance accurately enough.

Two friends are speaking on the phone:

A: Hi! I am not home at the moment! What is the score?

B: 0-2!

A: Come on! Tell me and I am in a hurry!

B: Ok! 0-3!

A: Are you serious? Please, tell me the real score!

B: Seriously, 0-4!

Very Good and very true !!

I don't believe that this topic is FOUR years old!!! It looks like it was yesterday when I started it!

So... what do you say for this Mundial? I have not been involved at all this year, and I have no idea which countries have been selected, but I liked the score between Spain and Portugal. Ronaldo seems unstoppable. I can't say the same for Messi. ;)

I guess it is not necessary to get the Danish dynamite 6-1 on the wings this year :'(
