Step 1: Right click "Computer" > "Manage" > "Storage" > "Disk Management" > right click partition D > select "Delete Volume".

Step 2: after deleting partition D, there will be some unallocated space behind system partition C. Right click system partition C and select "Extend Volume".

This shows with pictures what to do.

If you have any questions, ask before you try it.

I'd tell you to be sure you have an image of C before you start but I'm not sure that an image of an almost completely full drive is possible.

I've split partitions and also resized a partition, adding the "unallocated space" to the desired partition.  If you want to keep the D partition for any reason (i.e. dual booting), Moses, you'd use that method.  However, I think the method plodr showed you from the provided link will likely work best for you.  You do need to set a up a backup system though.

More "breathing room" will be great!

Right now, we are all suffocating.

Fortunately Windows 7 included tools to make this so much easier to split or to expand partitions.

I did not need to install any programs when I took our two Win 7 netbooks and split off a portion of C to store movies. When I image, it used to take so long to image C and every image included all the movies I stored on the netbooks to watch when we had no internet or even the electricity goes out with the cable tv. Now I just image the C partition most of the time.

Yes, Dr. M if you are running Windows 7 and there is nothing on the 2nd partition behind C that you need to keep. The two partitions must be next to each other.

Follow the directions and eventually C and D will become a larger partition C.

The computer is Windows 8. Do I have to do the same?

I'm now sure. I only used someone's computer running Windows 8 twice so my experience is very limited. I'll see if I can find some information.

I certainly don't want you to end up with a problem.

Everything makes it look very complicated in 8. Most of the tutorials with pictures show you how to shrink C; exactly the opposite of what you want to do.

Can you post a picture for me of what your drive looks like? I want to see the bottom of the screen in Disk Management.

The steps are exactly the same as in Windows 7. I followed your instructions and I extended C with the space of D.
Thank you, plodr.

Thank you Dr. M for being the guinea pig and trying it.  :cheers2:
Now when someone asks, I will try and find this thread and point them to a link.

It's the first time I hear the phrase ''Guinea pig'' and I will search for it!  :cheesy:

Guinea Pigs are one of the species used for testing drugs, etc. before testing on humans can begin.

(Had penicillin been tested first on Guinea Pigs, it might never have been allowed for humans - it kills Guinea Pigs!)
