Cannot locate and pin Word to start! Do  even have it anymore?
It was there under win 7

Not sure what to say. On mine, when I look for Word, it finds it. You may have to reinstall it. If you see it in Control Panel > Programs and Features, you might be able to do a repair on it.

In your Windows 10 loaded on laptop.... thread, the log shows you have Microsoft Office XP Professional installed.

Corrine...I removed that because it would not have been compatible.
So I guess windows 10 download from monkeysoft does not come with it??

Yes.  You can use Word online for free.  Go to Free Microsoft Office for the web, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and scroll down to "Word for the Web" or just click this link:  Start using Word.  Other Office products are also available from there to use on the web.

Yes, you can use Libre Office. It is Freeware and contains everything except Outlook.

Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office (which includes Word) are two different products, and just because you have one (Windows) does not mean that the other one (Office) comes bundled with it (at least not these days).  Thus the updates of Windows 10 do not bring new versions or updates for the Office suite.

However I think that you may be wrong about Office XP running on Windows 10.  From some of the comments I have seen it seems to run and run well.  But the problem might be in terms of security.  The Office XP programs stopped being supported and updated many, many years ago (2014?).  So any bugs, vulnerabilities, security holes, etc will no longer be fixed or patched.  Thus while you may be able to reinstall and use it just as well as before, you may be opening yourself and your system to security vulnerabilities.

There are quite a few free word processing programs out there---just do a search for free word processors.  Most of them come as part of free office suites, and probably the most continually updated one of those is Libre Office, which is an open source program.  This is a major suite with many programs and it is a huge download.  But it is free and is being continually updated.

As Corrine said, you can also use Word free as an online program.  You have to sign up for a Microsoft account of some kind though---like for instance, an Outlook.com email account.  But still it is a free version of Word, but just based online instead of your computer.

So you have options!
