Yes. I used killbox 2x on this but it's still there. C:\WINDOWS\Sc32Inch.exe Is it really not supposed to be there? or maybe it's just an error or bug?

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
Before running Dr.Web CureIt, please run CCleaner again.  Shutdown/restart and then do the followng:

  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, in the menu, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.
Please include a fresh HJT log with the log from Dr.Web.

Did you receive any messages while it CureIT was scanning, i.e., if you want to cure/move a file?

nope

Corrine

Hi, lkenshin23.  Sorry for the delay.  I wanted to consult with other members of the team on the next steps proposed as I am not satisfied that everything has been removed yet as HijackThis often reports a service as "file missing" even though it is still there and active.

A.  Please download ewido AntiMalware.  It is a free version of the program.

  • Install ewido AntiMalware

    • Launch ewido, there will be a large yellow e icon on your desktop, double-click it.
    • The program will prompt you to update.  Click the OK button.
    • The program will now open to the main screen
    • On the left-hand side of the main screen, click on Update
    • Click on Start. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • When complete, the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful".
  • Do not scan yet.
  • If you have problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido --   Ewido manual updates
  • Die Hard created a tutorial for ewido, which is available here:  http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/Tutorials/ewidoQuickGuide.pdf

B.  Launch HijackThis and do the following:

  • Click "Config" button
  • Click "Misc Tools" button
  • Click "Delete an NT Service" button
  • Copy and Paste the bold text in the "Delete an NT Service" window:  Sc32Inch

C.  Restart your computer in Safe Mode.

  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu will appear. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe Mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
If you need further assistance with Safe Mode, see Symantec

    D. Run ewido:

    • Open ewido and click on scanner
    • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
    • While the scan is in progress, you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
    • When prompted to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
    • Checkmark the box:  *Create encrypted backup in the quarantine* (recommended).  Click OK.
    • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
    • Click Save report.
    • Save the report.txt file to your desktop, or any other easily accessible location.
    Now close ewido.

    E. Please post the following with your reply and let us know if you've received any further warnings from Norton and letl us know how you're doing:
  • the ewido log
  • a fresh HijackThis log

Hi Corrine,

I'm in the part B of your instruction:

B.  Launch HijackThis and do the following:

    * Click "Config" button
    * Click "Misc Tools" button
    * Click "Delete an NT Service" button
    * Copy and Paste the bold text in the "Delete an NT Service" window:  Sc32Inch

around there when it seems like I can't delete the application.

Here is what HJT tells me. I've tried eliminating the program using scan and fix checked once again, before trying your instruction for the second time and it still tells me the same message. The message is this.

SpyDie

Sorry to step in but try doing that in safe mode. (Corrine's post has instructions on how to boot into safe mode if you don't know how to). In theory, that process shouldn't be started when you run into safe mode if its, there are other ways we can use to get rid of it.

HTH
Beta. Software undergoes beta testing shortly before it's released. Beta is Latin for 'still doesn't work.'

Corrine

Thanks, SpyDie.  You can step in any time!

lkenshin23

Hi guys,

I've tried what you suggested. I tried to eliminate it in safe mode but it just says the same thing as the img I've pasted. It just doesn't want to be removed.

SpyDie

Could you try this for me please?

http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avenger.zip

Download that above file and extract the contents (right-click on the zip file and select 'Extract All' and follow the wizard). Please extract it to the Desktop.

Launch The Avenger by double-clicking on the icon on the desktop. Click OK to the prompt. Choose "Input Script Manually". (Which is under "Script file to execute")

Click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"

Copy/paste the contents of the following box into that "View/edit script" in Avenger.

Files to delete:

C:\WINDOWS\Sc32Inch.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\remon.sys

Hit 'Done'

Answer 'Yes' at the prompts.

Your computer will automatically restart.

Once you've logged back in, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.

The Avenger will create a logfile, which is located at C:\avenger.txt

Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Add/Reply
Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script

SpyDie

Now that is really strange....could you try this please?

Here is a VBS file created a while ago by an expert called Mosaic1. It'll create a list of the services that are currently running on the computer. Save it to the desktop or somewhere you can access easily because it'll create a log in the directory it is run from called Active.txt - could you please post that log?

Also, could you try fixing that entry again for me please?

Run HijackThis, Run a scan with it again and checkmark the box next to this:

O23 - Service: Socks-Cap (Sc32Inch) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\Sc32Inch.exe (file missing)

Reboot & post that logfile too please.
